With Eskom announcing that they had taken loadshedding back to stage 6, one young lady is increasingly worried about her health.
Zama Mtshali (27) of KwaDukuza was diagnosed with lung disease in 2010. In 2020, during the Covid-19 pandemic she started using an oxygen machine to assist her to breathe.
The oxygen machine that she uses heavily relies on electricity for it to function effectively.
But the ongoing loadshedding woes have posed a great risk to her health. She has to charge her oxygen machine frequently.
“We can be without electricity in this area for the whole day and that can be a challenge,” she said
She is worried about the ongoing black outs and she wishes things could change for the better.
I would love to get solar oxygen so that even when there is load shedding I would not have a problem” she said.
But her story is one of a few isolated ones. Many other people who suffer from chronic health conditions are living a difficult life because of loadshedding.
