JMPD SERGEANT HELPS WOMAN GIVE BIRTH ON A NORTHCLIFF STREET

GAUTENG-JMPD Region B Operations Sergeant Nkuna assisted a pregnant woman in labour at the corner of Milner Road and Beyers Naude Drive in Northcliff. With the assistance of a bystander, Nkuna was able to help deliver a bouncing baby girl.A Sergeant from the Johannesburg Metro Police Department (JMPD) assisted a woman on a street corner in Northcliff to give birth to a healthy baby girl on Wednesday, 1 February 2023.


 

JMPD Operations officers, with Sergeant Connie Nkuna, patrol when a member of the public approached them. He said a woman was in labour at the corner of Milner and Beyers Naude Drive in Northcliff.

JMPD spokesperson Xolani Fihla said the officers immediately went to the woman. After evaluating the situation, Nkuna requested her colleagues to go to the Roosevelt Fire Station to get assistance from paramedics.

“The woman went into full labour while she awaited assistance. The baby had to be delivered with the help of Sergeant Nkuna, a bystander, and the mother’s sister. The woman gave birth to a bouncing baby girl, and shortly after her delivery, the paramedics arrived.”

Fihla said, according to information, the mother was heading to Rahima Moosa Mother and Child Hospital in Coronationville. She went into labour after she got out of a taxi.

“The ambulance transported the mother and healthy newborn girl to Rahima Moosa Mother and Child Hospital, and they were both discharged after observation. The mother chose the name Blessing for her daughter after Sergeant Nkuna said that the baby’s birth was a blessing.”

Sergeant Nkuna was newly promoted in her position and served her first day in Region B, Randburg, when she helped a woman on a street corner to give birth.
The JMPD Acting Chief of Police Angie Mokasi commends Sergeant Nkuna for going above and beyond the call of duty by ensuring that she helps the distraught mother give birth while serving the city with the greatest pride and dedication.
