Long-Awaited Breakthrough: Three Suspects Arrested In Connection With AKA Shooting

The South African Police Service (SAPS) has arrested three suspects in connection with the shooting of rapper AKA last month.

IOL reported that the three suspects were nabbed in Cape Town after being tracked down and observed during the week.

A source who is privy to, and is part of the investigation into the callous murder of AKA, real name Kiernan Jarryd Forbes, revealed that the three suspected assassins are in police custody in Cape Town.

The three will be transferred to Durban, KwaZulu-Natal, where they will be charged.

Western Cape police spokesperson Colonel André Traut declined to confirm the arrest of the men who are thought to have shot dead the Fela In Versace hitmaker.

When IOL reached out to Trout for confirmation, he directed all relevant questions about the arrest to the KwaZulu-Natal police. He did not reveal if the three suspects were caught in Cape Town.

“It is a KZN case. Should we get any information, it will be sent to them. You should contact them for information.”

Colonel Robert Netshiunda, the KwaZulu-Natal province police spokesperson, declined to share any information on the arrest. He told the media:

“We have not received any update on the AKA case.”

AKA was gunned down with his close friend Tebello “Tibz” Motsoane on 10 February just outside a restaurant along Florida Road in Morningside, Durban. Unknown assailants ambushed him as he was bidding farewell to his friends en route to his birthday celebration at a local club.

The shooter ran up and fatally shot him in the head at close range before hitting Tibs in the shooting melee that ensued.

After the gruesome murder, South Africans pointed fingers at Moses Tembe, the father of AKA’s girlfriend Nellie Tembe, who committed suicide in Cape Town in 2021.

Days after AKA’s death, Moses Tembe’s lawyers released a damning document revealing that they have evidence that shows Anele was shoved or thrown from the hotel balcony in April 2021.

Social media users expressed mixed sentiments about the arrest of AKA’s suspected killers in Cape Town.

@Am_Blujay:

“I just hope they got the right people. We don’t want another Senzo Meyiwa drama, arresting the wrong people.”

@bandz_and_roses:

“Ok, but did they get the right people?”

@Fana_Sibeko1:

“Imagining believing the RSA law or police service system, the same one that arrested a homeless man accusing him of bombing parliament.”

@OwamieVoid:

“I pray that one day one or two of these people who are successfully charged for these assassinations spills the beans on ALL their clients and make history in the cases that have been happening for the past two decades or more.”
