Lvovo Derrango Moves Back To Parents’ Home After Stroke Leaves Him Unable To Walk
Kwaito star Lvovo Derrango is back at his parents’ home after suffering a stroke in December that left him unable to walk.
Lvovo Derrango, real name Thokozani Sphamandla Ndlovu, suffered a minor stroke while performing at the Indwedwe Music Festival at the Nsuze Sports Field in Ndwedwe, KwaZulu-Natal on 23 December 2022.
This was a few days after his close friend, Mampintsha, had also had one, which took his life on 24 December. Lvovo was admitted to the hospital and was discharged a few days later.
The 42-year-old musician said he is recovering well, but the journey has been challenging. He told ZiMoja:
“It has been very tough for me. I have not been able to walk, my leg was affected by the stroke, and my hand was affected. My friends have been very supportive, driving me around and taking me for my check-ups. This weekend, they hosted a braai at my home, and it was a thanksgiving.”
Lvovo added that the stroke affected him so much that he needed extra care.
As a result, he had to move back to his parents’ home so his family could look after him.
“I have been going through a lot. I couldn’t stay alone at my place. I needed to be home to get assistance; I was immobile. It’s been a rough few months for me. My leg could not work, and I wasn’t able to do many of the things that I was used to.
“The stroke also affected my movement. I could not perform and make money. I almost died. I don’t know how I survived. I will always be thankful to God and my ancestors for keeping me alive. I thank everyone who supported me- friends, family and everyone.”
Lvovo confided that music had kept him sane, and he is now back in the studio, working on an EP that will be released this year.
